Our interest in the Belgian Sheepdog began about 15 years ago. I saw a book in a pet store with an elegant and beautiful black dog on the cover. I bought the book and decided one day I would like to have one. (Unknown to me at the time, I would eventually meet the breeder/owner of the dog on the cover).
At that time, I was involved in 4-H with my children. I was the leader of their Rabbit Club which lead us to breeding and showing rabbits at the American Rabbit Breeders Association shows for many years. (My real dream though had been to show dogs). We bred and showed Rex and Mini Rex rabbits for 15 years. We all did quite well with our lines, winning BOB, Best Group 4 Class, and BIS many times with our breedings. It was great fun and we met many people with the same interest (some we later found out were also dog people). Eventually, our life turned a different direction.
The time came for us to put our long coated German Shepard mix to sleep, he was a wonderful and devoted member of the family for many years. His loss devastated us. However it did not take long for us to miss having a dog around, so it was decided we would get another. I immediately thought of the Belgian Sheepdog. I attended a couple of shows, met them in person and immediately fell in love. We got our first Belgian in 2000, Holly. She is such a great dog that we got another, and then another. And so it began. They are very addictive that way.
Since that time our small kennel has grown. We love the breed. They are such affectionate, intelligent, and elegant dogs that are so full of life. We enjoy their loving devoted companionship, as well as doing things with them like agility, rally, and conformation. Over the years, through them, we've met many new people and made lots of wonderful friends many of whom share our love of the breed. This rest is history!
